Understanding power.Documenting facts.

An international network of publications that analyses decisions, verifies claims and conducts public-interest investigations.

Project statusThe publications are in preparation. This site presents the publisher, the method and the policies the publications will apply.

01Shared method

A four-step process, the same for every publication.

The full method
  1. Editorial question

Every piece starts from a precise question: what was decided, by whom, with what effect. The question defines what needs to be proven.

  2. Gathering evidence

Documents, data, public records and testimony. Every relevant claim must be traceable to a source.

  3. Comparing accounts

The people and organisations involved are contacted before publication. Conflicting accounts are reported.

  4. Responsible publication

The text separates established facts, hypotheses and opinions, states the limits of the research and attributes responsibility in proportion to the facts.

03Public-interest investigations

What makes a piece an investigation.

No investigations have been published yet. Once they are, this section will link to the publications’ verified work.

Our investigative method
  1. Original research

It does not repackage published news: it produces new findings from documents, data or testimony.

  2. Traceable evidence

Every relevant claim is linked to evidence described in a verifiable way.

  3. Right to respond

Those named receive the questions before publication, and their response is reported.

  4. Stated limits

The text states what could not be established and which questions remain open.

  5. Human approval

Every investigation has identifiable editors who approve its publication.
